Land of Fire

Synopsis

This show seeks to analyse the state of Portuguese forests, document the situation experienced by people and forests consumed by fires in recent years, as well as in other southern European countries, and understand this reality in a comparative way.

Do forests in southern Europe burn in the same way? How are they managed in Portugal and the rest of Europe? What can be done to protect and diversify Portuguese forests? This production explores the issue of forest fires, examining their devastating impact in Portugal and southern Europe, drawing on personal accounts, data and critical reflection on land management and the future of forests.

Terra de Fogo focuses, in particular, on the story of a family deeply affected by the 2017 fires in Portugal, in which 500,000 hectares were burned and more than 100 people died.
