with André Amálio

Description

This workshop will focus on documentary theater, exploring the artistic language that André Amálio and Tereza Havlícková have been developing in recent years through a creative process that blends theater, devising, improvisation, autobiography, and family histories. With this workshop, Hotel Europa continues to push the boundaries of what documentary theater can be, as well as to share the knowledge gained through its artistic direction with other professionals.

André Amálio—an artist, actor, and director—has focused his work on documentary theater, autobiography, memory, postcolonialism, and the colonial past. He was a fellow at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. He holds a master’s degree in the arts from Goldsmiths College and a Ph.D. from the University of Roehampton. He taught at the University of Minho, where she instructed in directing, creative theater, and documentary theater as part of the theater program at ESAD and at HAMU (Faculty of Performing Arts in Prague). He has appeared in productions directed by Anna Furse, Antónia Terrinha, Giacomo Scalisi, João Brites, Lúcia Sigalho, Luis Castro, Madalena Vitorino, Marie-Gabrielle Rotie, among others. Together with Tereza Havlíčková, he founded the Hotel Europa theater company, where he serves as artistic director, creator, and director of the productions.
